[E-book] The Concise Manual of Marriage — al-Uthaymeen

A short yet concise manual on the legal rulings of marriage authored by one of the beacons of light in his time, Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen, with comments from some of the Scholars of Islaam, past and present.

The Definition of Marriage: After providing the linguistic meaning of marriage, Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen stated that the technical, religious meaning and purpose of marriage is: “The conclusion of a contract of marriage between a man and a women, with each of the two desiring to enjoy and take pleasure in one another, to establish a righteous family, and to create a safe and sound society.

From the Wisdom of Marriage:

1) Preservation and protection of both mates. The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “O party of young men! Whoever among you has the ability to get married, then let him marry for surely it will be a means of lowering the gaze and protecting the private parts.”
2) Protection of the society from evil and the disintegration of [good] character, for without marriage, vices or despicable acts would spread amongst men and women.
3) The fulfillment of pleasure of one mate with the other, concerning what is mandated for him of rights and sexual intercourse. Since the man is responsible for the woman, he takes care of the maintenance of food, drink, housing and clothing with what is beneficial. The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Upon you is their provisions and clothing from what is beneficial.” And the woman is also responsible for establishing for the man, that which is required of her in the home of supervision and correction. The Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “The woman is a shepherd in her home and she will be questioned concerning her flock.”
4) Perfection of relations between families and tribes. For how many times do we see two distant families that do not know each other?”

The new edition includes a second appendix containing advice for the newlyweds.

[E-book] The Islamic awakening- Sh. Ibn Uthaymeen

My brothers, the Islamic awakening of today has pervaded all Islamic countries, and all praise is for Allah. It has to be understood, however, that this awakening must be established upon a solid foundation – in terms of Allah’s book and Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger [sallallahu alaihi wasallam]. If it is not established upon these primary sources, then it will be a reckless and unstable awakening, which will perhaps destroy more than it will build. But if it is built upon the principles and teaching of Allah’s Book and the authentic Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger [sallallahu alaihi wasallam], then it will have a very positive and effective influence on the Muslim Nation and on other Nations as well.

Who would imagine that, at the time, even the Arabs were not under his rule; in fact, the Prophet [sallallahu alaihi wasallam] has not even conquered Makkah; he was still considered to be an emigrant of Makkah? So who would imagine that a king such as Harqal, who ruled over so many people, would say such a statement: “If what you say is the truth, then he will rule over what is underneath these two feet of mine?” Did what Harqal predict actually occur or not? Did the Prophet [sallallahu alaihi wasallam] rule over what was underneath the feet of Harqal, i.e. Sham at the time, Rome ruled over those lands? Isn’t it true that Prophet [sallallahu alaihi wasallam] died before the Muslims conquered Sham?

My brothers, if this consciousness that has pervaded the ranks of the Muslim youth today is not based on Allah’s book and the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger [sallallahu alaihi wasallam], then it will be reckless and misguided, and it is feared that it will destroy more than it will build.

[E-book] Youth’s problem- Sh. Ibn Uthaymeen

Youth is a time of great change and hope for the future. It can be the happiest and most productive time of a person’s life, yet this stage of development can also be fraught with numerous psychological, sociological, and spiritual crises. Because the young people of any society carry the future of their nation on their shoulders, their problem and troubles should be of utmost concern for everyone around them and solution to these difficulties must be practical and concrete.

Islam offers a perfect code of life which addresses human concerns at all stages of life. The dilemmas faced by contemporary young people are no exception. Worries and misconceptions creep into their minds, make them feel confused and distressed, and may cause them to tum in the wrong direction; this may result in their being led astray. Allah the Creator, however; has bestowed upon humanity complete guidance which, if understood and followed, offers direction to even the most troubled minds and hearts. Young people who follow Allah’s guidance will become a source of pride, inspiration and strength for the global Muslim community. They offer hope for the future and a cure for the ills that plague the world. Their reward lies not only in this world but in the eternal life to come.
